Facilities

Ascot Vale is located between The Crescent and Station Avenue, with station access from both. A pedestrian underpass is situated at the Flinders Street end of the station.

The station consists of two side platforms; Platform 1 has a large red-brick building, while Platform 2 has a smaller brick building. Myki card vending machines are installed on both platforms.

History

Ascot Vale station opened on 1 November 1860 as part of the private Melbourne and Essendon Railway Company line to Essendon. The station closed with the line in 1864 until it was reopened in 1871 under government ownership. A temporary station building was provided in 1882 after duplication of the line, the present building on the up platform dating from 1889. A signal box was provided in the same year, but was closed with the abolition of mechanical signalling. Automatic signalling and electrification were provided in 1918 and 1919 respectively.
